16 - 18 luglio - meetup nazionale in Gran Bretagna!!!

WHEN: Friday 16th, Saturday 17th, Sunday 18th (until lunchtime).

LOCATION: Birmingham, at the Apres Bar next to Express by Holiday Inn Hotel on Lionel Street.
The 'Express by' is important, as there are two Holiday Inns and last time some members got taxis to the wrong one. The rate is £55 per night per room for a twin or double, including breakfast. Anyone planning on room sharing can have a double room with additional single sofa bed for £60 per night per room. No twin rooms have a sofa bed. so provided that two of you don't mind sleeping together each of three sharing could get a bed for £20 a night including breakfast.

I've reserved 10 rooms for the Friday and 15 for the Saturday.
The hotel staff will allocate a contract booking number in case anyone needs to get in touch with them directly, but they ask that this should only be done in an emergency. So all hotel type things to me please. In that respect I need to know if anyone wants a smoking room, or if they need disabled facilities, or adjoining rooms.

I've arranged with the hotel that individuals can settle their own accounts on checkout, but you will need a credit card to register. It wont matter if you're carrying £10,000 in used notes, without a CC you're a non-person as far as they're concerned. Anyone staying who doesn't have a CC can charge their room to my card and settle up with me in cash, but let me know in advance so I can authorise it for the hotel staff.

Parking is available in the hotel's secured car park at £10 per 24 hours, which is quite cheap really. Next nearest secure and well-lit parking is at the NIA, or there's the scary, dark, but very cheap car parks on Livery St. You pays your money ... I'll send maps later.

MEETUP WHERE: I arranged for us to have the use of the entire upstairs area of the Apres cafe-bar, which is on Summerow just eighty yards from the hotel. We've got the room at Apres all day Saturday, exclusively for our use up to 7:00pm then it's opened to the general public.

We also have access to the roof terrace so we could sit outside if the
weather is good, this also links Apres with another restaurant / bar but a *very* upscale one. Sells fancy shellfish dishes at massive prices, but it has dancing late on Fridays and Saturdays.

MENU: The menu included all sorts of stuff from soup, salads and baps from £2.50 through pizzas at £6 up to fancy main meals from £7.95. They also provided a children's menu (fish fingers, chicken nuggets, that sort of thing, with ice-cream to follow. I think this was £3.95)

Tea, coffee and stuff like that is available all day. Coffee is £1.25 small £1.75 large and there's about twenty different types. Tea is £1.50 per pot. (£1.60 for speciality teas)
There's also a big list of smoothies and fruit juices for those who don't drink alcohol.

Friday afternoon, general get-together for those making a weekend of it. Early evening book release (Central Libary Zone maybe?) then drinks and dinner on Broad Street or at one of the cafe-bars in The Mailbox.

Saturday morning, recover! No seriously, breakfast in the hotel, then I expect most will go shopping, releasing, and for Jalna, etc.
Reconvene for lunch at Apres 1:00-1:30pm with the meat of the meet
kicking off at 2:00pm. Fun; games; jollity; chocolate; many books and a few drinks to follow I expect.

Saturday Evening, we'll see what the consensus is.

Sunday morning, breakfast in the hotel, then either shopping or a walk up to the Jewellery Quarter, releasing books en-route. I'll try and get a Blue Badge guide to do the 1.5hour guided walk. Don't worry about the length of time. It's not indicative of the distance covered. In fact the whole thing is done in about a mile and a half.

Pub lunch either in the Jewellery Quarter or on Bennets Hill in town as we make our way back to the hotel to collect bags. I've arranged with the hotel that we can leave bags in a secured room 'til after lunch, even though everyone must check out by 12:00 noon.

no, eh? :?

http://homepage.mac.com/pachydomo/Uncon ... anning.htm

Notate bene come la "nostra" unconvention faccia concorrenza alla "convention" tenuta a St. Louis alcuni mesi fa  :P
