Come vivere nell'idillica Inghilterra rurale se hai come vicino Damien Hirst

The latest Damien Hirst creates a bit of a stink
By Simon de Bruxelles

DAMIEN HIRST is used to causing a stink in traditional art circles but now the neighbours are complaining too.
The artist whose sharks and cows pickled in formaldehyde won him the Turner Prize is under investigation after animal remains were left outside his studio for six days over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Environmental health officers are investigating possible breaches of regulations after people living near the studio in the Cotswolds complained.

Clive Eagles, his wife Tracy and their four children spent the weekend with the windows shut because of the stench from Chalford industrial estate in Gloucestershire.

Mr Eagles, 41, an engineer, said: “On Sunday the stench was so bad we couldn’t open any of the windows, and I decided I had to do something about it. As I walked towards the box the smell got stronger and there were loads of flies. When I opened up the lid it was revolting. There was a big lump of something that looked like a cow. It was vile.”

Hirst, who moved into the 20,000sq ft studio in 2001, has made no secret of his fascination with decay and decomposition of flesh. Jon Holmes, studio manager for Hirst’s company, Science Ltd, said that contractors were supposed to remove the container on the Friday but failed to turn up. Andry Moustras, a spokesman for the artist, said: “The situation has been dealt with and everyone is happy.” However, Hirst’s neighbours say that they will not be happy until they receive an apology.
