I am trying to keep up with this thread, but I'm afraid that I'm very slow at translation, and I will not insult you by trying to reply in Italian. Who knows, if it takes a long time to sort out the database I might eventually be able to write to you all in your own language!

The first thing to say is that the member database for Italy, belongs to you, the Italian members. What you say is what happens, and I will merely carry out your wishes.
The problem of bilingual areas is a tricky one, and each country has their own ideas. In Switzerland and Belgium region names have both spellings, the most commonly used language in the area goes first. In some countries there are two spellings for a city, and that is OK too, as long as the members are happy. So in Austria there is Vienna as well as Wien, and in Germany, Frankfurt and Frankfurt am Main are both used. I will not move anyone unless the referrers tell me to!
What I'm trying to do is speed up the use of the database for all users, and clear out all the wrong data. I have moved people from Baldwin/New York/Italy back to the USA, and brought home Italians who were in Milano/Lombardia/Antarctica !! There are many examples like this that are easy to fix. I'm also adding in all those Italian members who were not counted in Italy as their country name wasn't recorded correctly when they joined. I've found 172 so far, and I think there are many more.
The database is easier to manage, and faster, when the number of regions, and the number of towns/cities in those regions is lowest, so contracting the list to the names of the regions established by your region manager is the most sensible first step. Then to combine cities/towns which are simply different versions of the same place: for example in Lombardia:
cernusco
cernusco s/n
cernusco s/n (mi)
cernusco sn
cernusco sul naviglio
cernusco sul naviglio - milano
would all seem to be the same town, but that's six entries in the database, rather than one. When the referrer tells me which should be used, then they can be combined.
Anyway, first thing is to sort out the regions. I'm retty sure there isn't an Ohio, or Rhode Island, or any of the other US states in Italy

Steve
